Hustle, is born

05 October, 2015 by Mike Williams

They say if your dreams don’t scare you, they’re not big enough. It was my dream to set up a series of events that could be host to great creative talent, and set a stage for sharing and learning from our experiences as design professionals. Yes, it scared the hell out of me.

They also say, if you build it they will come.

And they did.

Hustle conference was born on 5th October 2015 in a corner café hidden in Belfast’s Cathedral Quarter. Sponsored by Deloitte Digital, the event saw 50 design professionals squeeze in to hear from our local speakers, Chris Armstrong and Lee Reilly.

Chris, a designer who followed his dream, took an idea he had for an app and turned it into his business. He spoke of the challenges he had faced and steepness of the learning curve in building an e-business. Not warning off, but sharing his insight with any other potential dream chasers.

And then our very own Lee Reilly took stage for our “learn and share” segment, speaking about prototyping tools and their pros and cons. His scrutinous research saving 50 people the time of trial and error in picking their next project tool.

For me though, I achieved my dream. Seeing an audience captivated, engaged and drinking responsibly (It was Monday after all).  And so on with the next one, coming in December. The nerves are little less frayed but challenge even greater to out-do the first one. But now I’ve got 50 people all helping me to dream bigger.
